Veitchia, Christmas Palm’
FAMILY: Veitchia
USES: Tropical effect. As a specimen, in small groups. On patios, terraces, atriums, courtyards, entrance areas, palnters and containers.
SIZE: Grows 5m tall with a 3.5m spread at a rate of between 30cm – 1m p/a.
LOCATION: Full sun to partial shade. Does well in humid coastal areas. Does not do so well in the interior regions unless planted in a lawn or in an area with high humidity.
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched, free draining fertile soil with a pH 6.6 – 8.5, neutral to alkaline. Will show leaf chlorosis if soil becomes too alkaline.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 20:10:5 NPK with trace elements annually in spring.
WATER: Best with regular applications. Drought tolerant for short periods only for best appearance. Does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging.
