Maintenance: Low maintenance requirements when used in shelter belts or in transitional plantings. However needs careful, attentive pruning to achieve a good shape if used in a formal scheme. This plant quickly develops weak crotches caused by imbedded bark forming in erect branches adjacent to the stem. Clean up of pods and leaf litter in highly maintained areas. Benefits from a reapplication of the mulch together with a slow release 20.10.5 NPK with trace elements annually in spring. Wash leaves occasionally to remove wind blown sand and dust, and to help reduce susceptibility to mites.
