‘Dwarf Pampas grass’
FAMILY: cortaderia
USES: Used for its impressive year round plume display. Provides movement in the landscape. A great groundcover, en masse, silhouette, as a specimen, accent, background or foundation plant. Looks good near water.
SIZE: Grows 1.7m tall (including flower stalk) with a clumping spread of 1.5m.
LOCATION: Full sun to light partial shade. Does well in both the more humid coastal locations, with protection from direct salt spray, and in the higher elevations. Enjoys the ample irrigation and humidity of a lawn. Not so good in the open, hot, dry desert regions.
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched free draining fertile soil with a pH 6.1 – 7.5, mildly acidic to neutral. Tolerates alkaline soils better than acid soils.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 14:14:14 NPK every six months in spring and autumn. May require supplemental N and K.
WATER: Keep soil moist. Drought tolerant once established, although best appearance is with regular water.
