FAMILY: Dodonaea
USES: Medium green foliage. Used as a hedge, specimen, windbreak, espalier, pioneer plant or informal screen. Does well as a transitional plant.
SIZE: Grows 1.5 – 3m tall with a 2-3m spread at a rate of 30 – 50 cm p/a.
LOCATION: Full sun and reflected heat. Does best in coastal locations and will need some midday shade in desert locations in July/August to prevent leaf burn.
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched free draining fertile soil with a pH 5.1 – 8.5, strongly acidic to alkaline. Subject to Fe chlorosis if soil is too alkaline or saline.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 15:8:11 NPK annually in spring.
WATER: Apply water regularly for best growth. Does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging which will quickly lead to rot.
