Screw Pine’
FAMILY: Pandanus
USES: Strong tropical effect. Accent, specimen, silhouette, barrier or container plant, en masse, near swimming pools, in courtyards, rock gardens, as an impenetrable hedge and coastal shoreline areas.
SIZE: Grows 3.5 – 5m tall with a 3.5 – 5m spread.
LOCATION: Full sun to partial shade. Enjoys the more humid coastal areas. Does not do so well in the hotter drier interior regions unless beside a water body or in a lawn.
SOIL: Best in a free draining, organically enriched, open sandy soil with a pH 6.1 – 7.5, mildly acidic to neutral.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 10:20:10 NPK with additional P, if so required, annually.
WATER: Moderate to ample water required for best growth. Does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging.
