‘Rhaphis, Lady Palm’
FAMILY: Rhapis
USES: Provides an immediate tropical effect. Used as a silhouette, specimen, screen, border or understorey plant. Does well in containers, pots, in focal points, entrance areas and en masse.
SIZE: Grows 2-3m tall with a similar spread at a rate of 20 – 30 cm p/a.
LOCATION: Full sun in humid coastal areas, partial midsummer shade in the interior regions.. Does well in most locations.
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched free draining fertile soil with a pH 6.1 – 6.5, mildly acidic. Sensitive to nutritional deficiencies and will show leaf chlorosis if soil is too alkaline or saline.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 20:10:5 NPK with trace elements annually in spring together with Fe sulphate if soil becomes too alkaline.
WATER: Best with regular moderate irrigation. Does not accept drought, over irrigation or waterlogging.
