FAMILY: Carpobrotus
USES: Flower display and groundcover in hot dry areas. Does well en masse, in borders, pots or containers, around pools, streams, lakes, beach front locations and green walls.
SIZE: Grows up to 45cm tall with an indefinite spread at a rate of 1 – 2m p/a.
LOCATION: Full sun and reflected heat to partial shade. Does very well in coastal areas. Accepts direct sea wind and in interior regions with protection from midday summer sun.
SOIL: Best in a sandy, organically enriched fertile open soil with a pH 6.6 – 8.5, mildly acidic to mildly neutral to alkaline.
FERTILISER: Apply a slow release 10:20:10 NPK with trace elements in spring and autumn.
WATER: Prefers deep, periodic irrigation. More water leads to faster growth. Does not accept waterlogging.
