‘Dill’
FAMILY: Anethum
USES: Used in the winter season for its attractive feathery leaves and culinary application in herb gardens, window boxes and hanging baskets. Does well in pots, containers, semi shaded green walls and focal points.
SIZE: Grows 30 – 60cm tall with a 30 – 50cm spread.
LOCATION: Full winter sun to light partial shade. Does not do well in too much shade.
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched sandy to medium free draining fertile soil with a pH 6.1 – 7.5, mildly acidic to neutral. Enrich the soil with compost and a slow release 10:20:10 NPK before planting. A mulch will also help to keep the roots and the soil cool.
FERTILISER: Apply a half strength liquid 9:2:6 NPK with trace elements every 2 months after planting. Keep a check on the soil and make sure it doesn_Ót become too alkaline.
WATER: Keep soil moist or the plant will quickly go to seed if it is too stressed. However does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging which will in turn will quickly lead to root rot.
