‘Thyme’
FAMILY: Thymus
USES: An aromatic plant for edging, low formal/informal hedge, edging, groundcover, transitional areas, herb gardens, window boxes and hanging baskets. Does well in pots, containers, interior green walls and focal points.
SIZE: Grows 15 – 30cm tall with a 30 – 60cm spread.
LOCATION: Full sun to light partial midday shade. Does not do well in too much shade. Prefers the slightly drier coastal areas (set back from the sea).
SOIL: Best in an organically enriched free draining fertile soil with a pH 6.6 – 8.5, neutral to alkaline.
FERTILISER: Apply a half strength liquid 9:2:6 NPK with trace elements every 2 months to increase flowering, starting once the flower buds start to appear. Watch that the soil doesn_Ót become too alkaline and treat with Fe sulphate if and when required.
WATER: Keep soil moist. Drought tolerant for short periods only for best appearance. Does not accept over irrigation or waterlogging.
